Registered Dietitians Answer Your Questions About Ovasitol

Hundreds of thousands of women around the world swear by Ovasitol to support hormonal health, fertility, and menstrual regularity.* Still, there are several questions floating around about Ovasitol, and our Theralogix team of registered dietitians is here to give you the evidence-based answers you’re looking for.

What is Ovasitol and what is it for?

Ovasitol is a 100% pure inositol powder supplement. Inositol is a nutrient in foods like fruit, beans, grains, and nuts, and it’s also made naturally within the body. While there are many different forms of inositol, two are particularly beneficial for women’s health: myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol.*

Research shows that these forms of inositol support:

  • Healthy hormone levels*
  • Healthy insulin and blood sugar levels*
  • Regular menstrual cycles*
  • Healthy ovarian function*
  • Healthy lipid levels*
  • Healthy egg quality in women trying to conceive*

How is Ovasitol different than other inositol supplements?

  1. Each dose of Ovasitol contains an evidence-based blend of 2,000 mg of myo-inositol and 50 mg of D-chiro-inositol to mimic the body’s natural 40:1 ratio.* Recent studies have shown that taking a combination of these two forms, in this ratio, is more beneficial than taking either myo-inositol or D-chiro-inositol alone, and more beneficial than other inositol ratios.*
  1. Ovasitol is the first and only 40:1 inositol supplement that’s independently tested and certified by NSF International, so you know exactly what you’re getting.
  1. Ovasitol is also packaged in two ways to match your lifestyle – in a recyclable canister with a scoop or convenient, single-serving packets. Plus, it’s unflavored, so it mixes seamlessly into any hot or cold non-carbonated beverage, making it an easy addition to your daily routine.

How long should you take Ovasitol?

Ovasitol is designed for continuous, long-term use. It generally takes at least three months of regular, daily use to notice menstrual benefits and at least 6 months of regular, daily use to notice skin and hair benefits.* If you’re taking Ovasitol to promote healthy egg quality, we recommend taking it consistently for at least six weeks.* But as always, it’s best to follow your healthcare provider’s recommendations.

Are there any side effects to Ovasitol?

There are no expected side effects from Ovasitol. Studies have shown that inositol is safe and well-tolerated when taken at the typical recommended dose of 4,000 mg per day.*

Can you take Ovasitol during pregnancy?

Yes, you can safely take Ovasitol during pregnancy. In fact, research shows that inositol can support healthy blood sugar levels during pregnancy.*

Can you take Ovasitol while breastfeeding?

Breast milk is a natural source of inositol, and inositol is added to many infant formulas. While there are no known safety concerns with taking inositol while breastfeeding, there are currently no clinical trials that evaluate inositol in women during lactation. We recommend checking with your healthcare provider about whether to take Ovasitol while breastfeeding.

Can men take Ovasitol?

Although many of the benefits of Ovasitol are focused on women, men also can take Ovasitol to help support healthy insulin and blood sugar levels.*

Can teenage girls take Ovasitol?

Yes. Recent studies have shown that 4,000 mg of myo-inositol per day is both safe and well-tolerated in 13-19 year old girls.* If you’re considering Ovasitol for yourself as a teen or have a daughter that may benefit from Ovasitol, be sure to discuss with a healthcare provider.

Can you take Ovasitol with metformin?

Yes, you can take Ovasitol with metformin. But, because they both contribute to healthy insulin and blood sugar levels, talk with your healthcare provider to make sure they know you’re planning to take Ovasitol and metformin together.

Can you take Ovasitol while on birth control?

Yes, you can take Ovasitol while on birth control, including hormonal contraceptive methods like:

  • Birth control pills (oral contraceptives)
  • Intrauterine devices (IUDs)
  • Birth control patches
  • Vaginal rings
  • Birth control shots
  • Hormonal implants

Can you take Ovasitol with folate/folic acid, prenatal vitamins, or other nutritional supplements?

Yes, you can take Ovasitol with most other nutritional supplements. In fact, if you’re trying to conceive, we recommend taking Ovasitol with a high-quality preconception prenatal vitamin, like OvaVite or TheraNatal Core. These provide key nutrients to support fertility and help you prepare for pregnancy, like methylated folate, vitamin D3, choline, iodine, and more.*

You can also take other supplements, like TheraCran One, TherOmega, NeoQ10, Curcusorb, TheraCal, Theratonin, and more.

There’s only one supplement we caution taking with Ovasitol: DHEA. If you’re considering DHEA and Ovasitol together, be sure to reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance. DHEA may raise testosterone levels, counteracting some of the potential benefits of Ovasitol in certain women.*

Ovasitol is the inositol supplement. It’s the first 40:1 inositol supplement in the U.S. and it’s still the only NSF-certified 40:1 inositol supplement in the world. If you’re interested in Ovasitol, be sure to keep your healthcare provider in the loop to make sure it’s right for you.
