Q. How is Prostate SR different than other saw palmetto supplements?

Prostate SR contains both saw palmetto and beta-sitosterol. The saw palmetto extract is from the berries of the saw palmetto plant. It provides the active ingredients- fatty acids and sterols- which function to promote healthy urinary frequency and flow.* Prostate SR contains 320 mg of saw palmetto extract, which is standardized to contain 85-95% fatty acids and sterols. Most published clinical trials use this same dose.

Prostate SR also contains a phytosterol blend of naturally occurring plant sterols and stanols including campesterol, stigmasterol, brassicasterol, beta-sitostanol, campestanol, and other sterols. The dose of beta-sitosterol that has been used in clinical trials varies significantly. Benefits have been seen at a range of doses of beta-sitosterol as part of a phytosterol blend. Prostate SR provides 500 mg of phytosterol blend, standardized to contain at least 40-50% beta-sitosterol.

Q. Who is likely to benefit from a saw palmetto and beta-sitosterol supplement?

Studies suggest that men who experience urinary tract symptoms, including frequent and/or urgent urination, difficulty starting to urinate, a sensation of fullness in the bladder after urination, and diminished force of urinary stream may benefit from the use of saw palmetto and beta-sitosterol.*

Q. How long can I take Prostate SR?

Prostate SR is designed for ongoing daily use. Studies lasting up to 15 years have demonstrated the safety and benefits of saw palmetto.* Studies lasting up to 18 months have demonstrated the safety and benefits of beta-sitosterol.* Speak to your healthcare provider for more information.


Q. What is the difference between the Theralogix "Prostate" products (Prostate 2.4, Prostate PQ, and Prostate SR).

Each Prostate product contains different ingredients for different prostate benefits. Depending on your needs, you can take one, or up to all three Prostate products.

Prostate 2.4 contains vitamin E, vitamin D, selenium, lycopene, and soy, and is for general prostate health.*

Prostate PQ contains a rye grass flower pollen extract and quercetin to support pelvic and prostate health, and support healthy urinary tract function.*

Prostate SR contains a saw palmetto extract and phytosterol blend (beta-sitosterol), and promotes healthy urinary tract function.*

Q. Is it normal for the color of Prostate SR to vary from bottle to bottle?

Yes. It is normal for the color of Prostate SR to vary. Prostate SR contains only natural ingredients extracted from plants. The saw palmetto berries can vary in size and color at the time of harvest due to the moisture level of the soil. This color variation can be seen through the gelatin softgel that holds the ingredients. Also, the softgel itself is made with a natural colorant (carob extract), which can vary slightly and also affects the color that you see.

Q. Are there side effects from Prostate SR?

No. There are no expected side effects from Prostate SR.

Q. Can Prostate SR be taken along with other nutritional supplements?

Yes. Prostate SR can be taken along with most nutritional supplements such as multivitamins, cranberry, glucosamine, chondroitin, PEA, and others. In one case report, saw palmetto was reported to prolong bleeding time. Theoretically, taking saw palmetto at the same time with other herbs and supplements that may affect platelet aggregation and may increase the risk of bleeding in some people. These herbs/supplements include angelica, clove, danshen, garlic, ginger, ginkgo, and Panax ginseng. Please check with your healthcare provider if you take any of the herbs mentioned above.

Q. Does Prostate SR interact with any prescription medications?

Yes. Because saw palmetto may slow blood clotting, theoretically, it might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs. Check with your healthcare provider if you take any of the following medications that slow blood clotting:

• Aspirin (daily)
• Clopidogrel (Plavix)
• Enoxaparin (Lovenox)
• Dalteparin (Fragmin)
• Heparin
• Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others)
• Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as Diclofenac (Voltaren, Cataflam, others)
• Warfarin (Coumadin)
