How to Choose the Right Supplement Brand: A Checklist for Smart Consumers

What goes into your supplements determines what you get out of them. But who determines what goes into them? The supplement brand.

So, it’s not just about choosing the right supplement for you – it's also about choosing the right supplement brand.

Ask yourself these questions when you’re shopping for new supplements

1. Are their products tested and certified by a trusted third party?

Here’s the unfortunate truth:

Unlike medications, dietary supplements aren’t required to undergo testing before they hit the market. So, this is quite possibly the most important question you can ask when you’re considering adding a new supplement to your routine.

Third-party testing and certification is your best guarantee that what’s on the supplement facts label matches what’s actually in the product, and that it’s free of harmful contaminants, including heavy metals and bacteria.

And here’s the other unfortunate truth: not all third-party testing is created equal. Choose a brand that works with trusted organizations, like NSF® International.

All Theralogix products are independently tested and certified by NSF   International for content accuracy, purity, and freedom from contaminants –   so you know exactly what you’re getting.

2. How do they formulate their products?

Supplements should be formulated based on scientific research – not just trends and anecdotal evidence.

Theralogix products are formulated based on clinical research – but we don’t  stop there. They’re also reviewed and approved by our Medical Advisory  Board, which is made up of a carefully selected group of physicians, top  research scientists, and faculty members at leading U.S. medical schools.

3. Can you easily find information on their website?

This is a direct reflection of transparency. And transparency is key to earn your trust.

So, when you’re looking at a supplement online, it shouldn’t be difficult to find the:

  • Supplement Fact Panel: This details every nutrient that’s in the product, the dose of each nutrient, and also lists any other inactive ingredients required to make the product. Full transparency is key. If you see terms like “proprietary blend,” “complex” or “matrix,” steer clear. These blends tell you the ingredients, but hide exact doses – so you don’t really know what you’re getting.

  • Suggested Use: This tells you how to take the product – how many, how often, if it should be taken with or without food, and if there’s a preferred time of day to take it.

  • Third-Party Certification: Remember, third-party certification is your best guarantee for content accuracy, purity, and freedom from contaminants. Check the product page for a statement about third-party testing and certification, and look for a mark or seal on the packaging that confirms it meets strict certification criteria.

Theralogix strives for full transparency – and our website reflects that. It’s easy to find the supplement facts panel, suggested use, and third-party certification for every single product we offer.

4. Do they follow current Good Manufacturing Practices?

Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) outline approved processes for manufacturing, packaging, labeling, and storage of dietary supplements. Basically, it’s a quality control system. Supplement brands and their manufacturers are legally required to adhere to cGMPs to help make sure their products meet specifications for strength, identity, purity, and composition.

Theralogix only works with cGMP-compliant facilities in the U.S. to maintain product quality and safety throughout the entire manufacturing process.

 5. Do they offer customer support?

Many supplements are designed to support your long-term healthit’s almost like entering a long-term relationship with your supplement brand. And with any relationship, open communication is key. Reputable supplement brands are more focused on supporting rather than selling, providing timely answers to product questions, and helping you navigate any issues that may arise.

The Theralogix Customer Service Center is open 7 days a week to assist you with your account, product ordering, and general questions. For specific nutrition-related questions, our team of registered dietitians is available Monday-Friday. Visit our “Contact Us” page for more information.

Choosing the right supplement brand is just as important as choosing the right supplement itself. By asking the right questions about testing, formulation, transparency, manufacturing standards, and customer support, you empower yourself to make informed, confident decisions for your health. Remember, a trustworthy brand doesn’t just sell products — it stands behind them with clear information, proven quality, and genuine support. Keep this checklist handy the next time you shop, and choose brands that prioritize your safety and well-being every step of the way.
