Turmeric is a root (rhizome) that comes from a tropical flowering plant in the ginger family named Curcuma longa. Turmeric root is abundant in yellow-orange pigments called curcuminoids. One of the main curcuminoids is curcumin. This ancient spice is a popular herbal supplement due to its many health benefits.* Q. Who is likely to benefit from CurcuSorb?Any adult looking for a supplement to help support their brain, heart, immune, joint, and overall health, as well as healthy aging.* Q. Is there anyone who should not take CurcuSorb?Do not take CurcuSorb if you are pregnant or nursing, if you have had gallstones, bile duct obstruction, or liver problems, or if you have a known allergy to turmeric or curcumin. Turmeric should be used cautiously by men trying to father a pregnancy. Turmeric might lower testosterone levels and decrease sperm movement, which might reduce fertility. Consult with your healthcare provider before taking CurcuSorb if you have a medical condition or if you take prescription medications. Q. Are there any side effects from taking CurcuSorb? No, there are no expected side effects from CurcuSorb when taken with a meal as suggested. Q. Can I take CurcuSorb with other nutritional supplements? Yes. You can take CurcuSorb with most other supplements, such as multivitamins, glucosamine, chondroitin, cranberry, and PEA. Turmeric, found in CurcuSorb, may lower blood glucose (sugar) levels. Taking turmeric along with other herbs and supplements that might lower blood sugar (such as krill oil, goldenseal, inositol, and milk thistle) could lower it too much. If low blood sugar is a concern for you, be sure to monitor your blood sugar while taking turmeric. Use caution if taking supplements such as indole-3-carbinol, melatonin, omega-3s docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) while taking a turmeric supplement such as CurcuSorb as these all have potential blood-thinning effects. Q. Does CurcuSorb interact with any prescription medications?Yes. As with any dietary supplement, it is recommended you discuss with your pharmacist and or healthcare team to clarify whether CurcuSorb can be taken along with your medications. Antiplatelet drugs (aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB), heparin, and warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven)): These medications prevent blood clots by slowing blood clotting. Taking a turmeric/curcumin supplement along with these medications may increase the risk of bleeding. Medications for diabetes: The turmeric in CurcuSorb may naturally lower blood glucose (sugar) levels. Diabetes medications are also used to lower blood glucose. Taking turmeric/curcumin along with medications for diabetes may cause your blood sugar to go too low. Monitor your blood sugar closely. Separate by 3-4 hours. Since turmeric has antiplatelet and hypoglycemic effects, it is recommended to discontinue CurcuSorb at least 2 weeks before surgical procedures.
